As we approach The Lake’s “Best of the Best” Football Combine Tour – kicking off on July 8th – we look to give you the inside track on some of each location’s top pre-registered players. Check back daily for the latest updates and previews as we prepare for an exciting week. For our first installment, we look at a pair of dynamic running backs and a cornerback with rising stock.

Zeeland West had one of the most explosive backfields in West Michigan last season. You can expect more of the same in 2013, with the return of 2014 RB Marcus Lambert and 2014 RB Danny Bauder. Lambert, an All-Lake performer, rushed for 1600+ yards and 16 TDs in his junior campaign.  He has also ranked among our top running back prospects in the 2014 class. Bauder, with a 10.67 100m PR, showed a flash of brilliance in last season’s playoff loss to eventual state champ GR Christian. In that game, Bauder rushed for 159 yards and 3 TDs of 31, 73, and 23 yards. He also had a strong performance at our March combine, clocking a 4.4 in the 40, the top time at that event.

On the defensive side of the ball, 2015 DB Danil Young had a strong sophomore season as Grandville’s starting cornerback. He’s had an equally strong off-season, turning in eye catching performances at our combines in Grand Rapids and Traverse City.  He also caught the eye of scouts and coaches at the Michigan Camp in mid-June. Young has the key ingredients for a successful collegiate DB: good hips, good ball skills, and a high football IQ. He also shows a toughness on-field that will serve him well at the next level. Young is drawing interest from various Division I programs.

On July 8, Lambert, Bauder and Young will be among a very talented group of players looking to earn the title of “Best of the Best” at our tour stop in Grand Rapids. With strong performances here against some of the best prospects in the state, look for them to shoot up our prospect rankings and draw big interest from college coaches.
