Following the testing, the most compelling one-on-one matchup at the LMFR Spring Combine was found amidst the linemen, Mona Shores’ versatile 6-3, 285 junior defensive lineman Christian Boyd against Paw Paw’s 6-5, 302 guard Michael VanHoeven. Both are already physical and combative by nature and brought out the fire in each other, and went on to be named the top offensive and defensive prospects at the event. Boyd is a two-year stalwart on the line of the best teams in Mona Shores’ history. While he is something of an undersized defensive tackle, Boyd is explosive off the grass, had violent hands, second and third effort and uses that bubble butt to generate power. VanHoeven is a two-time All-Wolverine Conference selection on the offensive line. He has an intriguing mix of technique and nasty, quickness in his space and a square frame and baby face that’s added 25 pounds since the combine a year ago. If he can show pulling speed at college camps this summer, expect the MAC offers to domino.
